Deep in the Algerian Sahara, where the ancient rock formations of the Tassili n’Ajjer have defied the sky for millennia, NOR Experience invites you to live six days of total immersion in one of the most wild and spellbinding territories on earth.
This is not a classic tour. It is a slow descent into the desert — into its silence, its colors, its flavors and its stories. Each day is guided by the sun, each night by the stars. You will leave the noise of the world behind, and rediscover something essential.
From the town of Djanet, gateway to the Tassili, you will cross the enclosed valleys of Essendilène, the plateaus of Essaman, the gorges of Adaïk, and the vast rock art galleries of Jabaren and Sefar. You will sleep at the camp, lulled by the desert wind and the sound of Tindi music played around the fire.
You will eat taguella bread baked in hot sand. You will listen to Tuareg legends under a sky of rare purity. You will visit the tomb of Ghawern, a Tuareg king. You will swim in the clear waters of the Tikoubawin oasis. You will create a piece of art with a local painter. And at sunset, from natural viewpoints few travelers have ever reached, you will understand why the desert changes those who cross it.
A journey for those who want to feel, not just see.

You’ll arrive at Djanet Tiska Airport, where our team will be waiting to welcome you. After a warm greeting, we’ll transfer you directly to the camp, nestled at the edge of the desert. Take some time to settle in, breathe the night air of the Tassili, and rest before the journey begins. Tonight is yours — a quiet introduction to the silence of the Sahara.

We begin early, just as the desert light turns gold. After breakfast at camp, we board our 4×4 vehicles and head toward Essendilène, one of the most scenic routes in the Tassili. We’ll visit a nomadic family in their home, share a traditional lunch with them, and experience firsthand the warmth and simplicity of Saharan hospitality. In the afternoon, we explore the site of Tighidet on foot — a quiet walk through ancient landscapes ending with a sunset that will stay with you long after this trip. Back at camp, the evening comes alive with Tindi music, the traditional sound of the Tuareg people, played live around the fire.

Walking: Moderate (2–3 hrs).
This morning we explore Oued Essendilène and visit the ancient tombs of the region before reaching the hidden oasis of Tikoubawin — one of the most beautiful natural pools in the Tassili. There will be time to swim, rest on the warm sand, and simply breathe. After lunch and a desert siesta, we set off to discover prehistoric rock paintings left by civilizations that lived here thousands of years ago. The evening brings one of the most memorable moments of the trip: a hands-on workshop where you’ll learn to prepare taguella, the traditional Tuareg bread baked directly in the hot sand. Dinner is followed by a live musical performance from a local group.

We spend the day in the extraordinary landscapes of Essaman, exploring rock art sites and walking through formations sculpted by wind over thousands of years. The silence here is remarkable. After lunch and an afternoon rest, we take a long contemplative walk as the light softens. Sunset is watched from a natural belvedere — one of the most breathtaking viewpoints in the region. Back at camp, gathered around the fire under one of the most star-filled skies on earth, our Tuareg guides share the legends and oral histories of their people. A night that invites reflection.

We rise before dawn for a sunrise walk at Issaman — a moment of rare beauty as the first light spills over the rocky plateaus. After breakfast, we visit the tomb of Ghawern, a legendary Tuareg king, and explore nearby oases. We then make our way to Adaïk, where the afternoon is given to a unique creative experience: a painting session with a local Tuareg artist who will guide you in creating your own piece as a personal souvenir of the desert. Sunset at Adaïk is something else entirely. Dinner around the fire closes another day that felt longer and richer than any ordinary one.

Today we set out before sunrise for the most ambitious excursion of the trip: the rock art galleries of Jabaren and mini Sefar, home to some of the most spectacular prehistoric paintings in the world — enormous figures and scenes etched into stone cliffs, silent witnesses to civilizations long gone. We take our time here. Lunch is eaten on-site, in the shade of ancient rock walls. In the afternoon we return to camp for a final stretch of rest and quiet activities. And tonight — the desert gives us one last gift. A farewell dinner of Mardoum, the traditional Tuareg celebration dish, followed by an evening of music, dance, and joy shared between travelers and hosts who have, over five days, become something like family.
